ONE YEAR TOGETHER

Elyana has been with us for ONE YEAR this week- more specifically June 16, 2010. It was very sentimental for me this week to think about her last day as an "orphan" and her first day as our "daughter" just one year ago. I remember the day we met her like it was just yesterday!

I remember waking up at 4:30 AM too excited to go back to sleep.

I remember waiting on the front porch of the BeJoe Guest House to hear the car horn honk indicating that she was here!

I remember when Travis (Gladney staff) said "She's all yours!" and I scooped my sleeping baby up out of her carseat! I remember telling her- "Hi baby! I'm your Mommy!" and hugging and kissing her.

I remember passing her off to her Daddy and her curious stares.

I remember her first smiles at us out front just after she met us. She was SO quiet!

I remember going inside for her first bottle (which was accompanied by a lot of spitting up).

I remember taking her in our room, holding her and sitting her on the bed to play, and just staring at her- unable to believe she was really OURS!

I remember her first nap with us- She fell asleep in my arms, and I laid her down on her back in her little crib. She immediately woke up and fussed- I picked her back up and she instantly fell back asleep. I soon found out she liked to sleep on her tummy (or in our arms!).

I remember watching her and missing her when she slept (actually this is often still true)...

What I don't remember is our lives without her!!

First Family Photo- June 16, 2010

To celebrate Elyana, we had a BBQ with a bunch of our friends and their kids at a local park. We took lots of pictures, ate lots of food, and Ely ran around a LOT! It was so much fun!

Here are a few photos of us one year after we finally met our daughter...

The title to a book I read pre-adoption comes to mind- "There is no me without you." (by Melissa Fay Greene- a GREAT book) It's so true... Without the blessing of my beautiful, adorable, smart, and funny daughter, Elyana I would not be called "Mommy" (yet). We love you SO much Elyana and can't imagine US without YOU!
